lovebirds wedding decorations

Fun commission work I did for a friend. They are obviously for hanging behind the bride & groom’s chairs, but would also be super cute displayed in a shadowbox as a keepsake after the big day. Or hung on a Christmas tree! The handmade birds were from an awesome couple I found on Etsy. I hand painted all the parts before gluing it together and attaching the screw eyes. I left the ribbon long so they could adjust it if necessary and hand wrote “Mr.” & “Mrs.” Fun project!

First Etsy Customer!

Today I received my first order for the All Because We Fell In Love screen print! I squealed and immediately texted my biggest supporters :)  Then I got started on packaging! I made a mini version of my banners (about 1×1 in.) that spells out “thanks” and a little note for Chelsea. I’m packing the prints with cardboard to keep them from bending too much. I hope she enjoys the prints as much as I enjoyed making them!

My favorite quote

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

A good friend of mine said this to me during my college application years. After two years at a community college, I applied to only two schools, one of them being my dream school. In retrospect, this was not a great idea, but that’s probably why I was so stressed at the time. There were so many what-if’s, so many possibilities, and so many things that could have gone wrong. My friend was definitely on the receiving end of a lot of my venting. This line set me straight and has really stuck with me throughout the years. Thanks friend!

This is my new screen print of my favorite quote. It’s white ink on kraft paper, and will hopefully be for sale on my Etsy shop as soon as I take some better pictures :)

First Set of Prints

Screen printing was a lot of fun and frustration yesterday. Thankfully, my great friend Christina was there to assist/”manage”/motivate. I learned the hard way that when prepping images for screen printing, any black on the transparency is what will not be inked because the black is what blocks the light from setting the emulsion on the screen. All the clear parts on the transparency will be inked when you actually print. After some strategic planning on how to best print it and figuring out the amount of ink to use for each print (what can I say, I have a heavy hand), we were good to go! I used the Speedball Opaque Iridescent Screen Printing Ink in Raspberry and printed on super fine white paper from Paper Source. I didn’t have time to print everything I prepared, but there’s always next time! My goal for the night is to post these on my (sad and empty) Etsy page, http://kiteride.etsy.com, before I go on vacation :)
